I published this back on the original version of my newsletter last year, and since I see Andrew Liptak has some interesting things to say about canon over on his newsletter, particularly in thinking about meta-texts that have shaped SFF and its fandom, I thought I would repost it. I was a lot crankier about the canon debate at the time. This is about as close to a manifesto as I am ever likely to produce, so take everything in it with a friggin' MASSIVE grain of salt, as with all quasi-manifestos. I have lightly edited it, because I cannot leave well enough alone.
